The houses on the left, just over the canal bridge, had coal cellars. In the 1960's when they were empty and before they were knocked down, we used to explore them. The first house had a hole knocked in the cellar wall, above the cellar floor level and we could scramble in. It had a long passage which turned at right angles into another large room. We estimated that this must have been beneath the canal.
