The location given is incorrect. It's no where near Welburn (10mi away). It is far closer to either Helmsley or Nawton, N.Yorkshire. |

In my opinion the pin is within a kilometre of the centre of the picture of RAF Wombleton Airfield. I have identified a few locations on the photo to enable us to know that the photo was taken facing west. It was quite difficult to orientate the photograph even though we are looking at three huge runways. Initially I had wrongly thought we were looking north! My only knowledge of this area was advertising for The Star PH at Harome but I've never been there. |

For goodness sake, if you're going to reply to things, think first before attempting an answer. Didn't you look at the legend for this image, it says: "RAF Wombleton Airfield, Welburn, 1946" It is no where near Welburn, which is about 10miles SSE of the airfield. I was merely pointing out this geographical error it is closer to Nawton or Helmsley. When I found Welburn on Google maps there was no airfield. That is the error. This has got nothing to do with the coordinates? In fact I never mentioned the coordinates, so bringing them up by stating the "pin is within a kilometre of the picture" is completely erroneous and unhelpful. The grid ref is correct but the legend for the image is wrong. |
