Filton West Junction Signal Box - controlled the passage of aircraft across the taxiway level crossing to the east of the Assembly Hall to allow aircraft to move from the Assembly Hall apron onto the airfield proper via the nominally north/south runway |

Railway level crossing of the Filton to Avonmouth line under construction. This allowed aircraft to cross from the Assembly Hall to the runway, the level crossing release was controlled by a lever in the Filton West Junction signal box. The barrier gates were controlled from a small cabin and moved horizontally to open the crossing.
Apparently this was the only location in the UK where aircraft crossed a double track railway line on the level. |
