' Gas holders. In the early days of the Met Railway, the carriages of the steam hauled trains were lit by gas produced at Neasden. Whether these gas holders are a legacy of that period or whether they served a later purpose, I don't know. It has been suggested that they might be oil storage tanks. On closer inspection this seems more likely. There appears to be a pipe system leading to the turbine room, so probably to supply oil to lubricate the coal-fired steam turbines. '
