Braunton Lighthouse
A lighthouse was built here in the early 1800s to safeguard mariners on a coastline plagued by shipwrecks but was sadly demolished in 1945. The lighthouse was accompanied by a lower light, which ran on rails according to the state of the tide

* 'Low Light', on OS 1891 map is ' box mounted on a tram road, on which it is moved to and fro - as the bar shifts position. - The 2 lighthouses must be brought into 1 by vessels making for the estuary'. Moveable 74ft high square white wooden structure.
