The original George Hotel circa 1890, built around 1781 by Thomas Fletcher. The four columns at the entrance were added by his son, Richard, and were taken from the Marquis of Donegal's home at Fisherwick Hall. In the late 1950s and early 60s these columns were lying in the Parks & Gardens Department depot at the bottom of Gorway Road. '
