The centre of one of Teweksbury's mediaeval open fields, The Gastons (or Gaerstun). The fields to the left and below this point, and the area including the Cemetary above as well as the A38 and houses running through the middle of it (which is a C19th turnpike road) make up the field which is shaped a bit like a knights shield in outline. This is quite apt, as this field is likely to have been the scene of at least part of the action on the 4th May 1471 when the decisive action in the Wars of the Roses took place here. '
