' The 18-acre site of Hampden School, the first secondary school built on the estate and opened on 11th September 1950, although the buildings were not finished until a year later. The school merged with neighbouring Clarendon School in 1967 to form the short-lived Sir James Altham Comprehensive School, which closed in July 1989, thus leaving the estate without a local secondary institution. '
