' The seaward end of Minehead Pier, which only survived for a further 8 years after 1932, being demolished in 1940 to secure a clear field of fire for guns mounted on the stone quay seen further to the right in the photograph. Test firing of the guns damaged the stonework and they were never fired again, subsequently being located elsewhere. '
