"Braeside" (219), Hampermill Lane, constructed in 1929, just prior to this photograph, was the home of Sid Baker and family, Head Greenkeeper at Oxhey Golf Club until his retirement in 1951. He had been involved in the construction of the famous old course from its inception in 1912. He returned to work as an employee at the club after serving in the Great War, firstly as a groundsman and then foreman, before his promotion to Head Greenkeeper. I remain friends with two of his grandchildren, Don and Dave Dunham, whom I first met in 1957, when they also lived at No.219. '
