Newton Cap Railway Viaduct, constructed 1854-57, to carry the line to Durham and Sunderland via Hunwick, Willington, Brancepeth and Brandon. The final train passed over the viaduct in 1968 and the structure was saved from demolition in the 1990s to form an important road bridge on the A689.
