Asylum wall was approx 8ft plus in height,built from sandstone blocks which ran both sides of Rainhill Road from Asylum Lodge Gates at Nutgrove Road through to the Elton Head Road. The wall also extended down a footpath adjacent to the Brown Edge water treatment works to Scholes Lane railway bridge which crossed the Wigan to Liverpool Railway line, nearest station Thatto Heath, St Helens, Lancashire.
