' The buildings in this immediate locality comprise the Newcastle-upon-Tyne Electric Supply Company's North Tees 'A' and 'B' Power Stations. North Tees 'A' was designed in 1917, when construction started, and accepted for commercial operation in March 1921. This station was technically advanced for the time, with its main claim to fame being the first commercial use of steam reheat between the turbine's high and low pressure cylinders. More details and photographs are available on pages 658, 664 and 665 of the June 13, 1924 issue of "The Engineer" magazine, which is freely available on the Grace's Guide internet website (http://www.gracesguide.co.uk/images/7/7a/Er19240613.pdf). NESCO built a garden village for its employees in Billingham, about a mile away from the power stations. This features on part of this site's image reference EPW032218. '
