Site of Rochdale Canal Lock 3. When Tuel Lane was built in 1996 it necessitated the demolition of the canal bridge seen in this photo, also locks 3 and4. A 104 m tunnel was built on the course of the canal, leading to a new lock, Tuel Lane lock, which, as it replaced locks 3 and four, has fall of 19 ft 8 1/2 inches (6m). This makes it the deepest canal lock in the United Kingdom.
