' Akroyd Place School (Akroydon Board School) opened 16th August 1886, demolished 1969. Had swimming baths added in 1890s, still in use in the 1960s. I went there for lessons from Northowram Primary School in the early/mid-60s. Whitaker's Brewery was at the end of the street - I would hold my breath all the way in to the baths as the smell of malt etc was overpowering! '
