Sanderson Brothers & Newbould -
The history of Sheffield and the area's role in steelmaking concentrates on the big players in the area (i.e. Firth Brown's, Vickers, Dunford Hadfield, Samuel Fox, etc.) In reality none of these would have existed had it not been for Sanderson's as most of the people that set these institutions up started their early careers at Sandersons. Similarly it was Sanderson's who played a major part in creating the American steel industry setting up first a sales organisation then manufacturing facilities which later led to the creation of some of the US steel giants including Carpenters who perversly, after a series of acquisitions, closed down the Sanderson's operations after approx 450 years of operation.
Try and locate a copy of Sanderson Kayser's brochure "400 years of steel" for more details. '
