The remains of Hebburn 'C' Pit alongside Ellison St and Lyon St. Hebburn had 3 pits A, B & C.
A Pit was sandwiched between the low road (Wagonway Rd) and the bottom end of Argyle St where it becomes Auckland Rd.
B Pit was between Victoria Rd East and St Oswalds church, east of Black Rd. Sir Humphrey Davey inventor of the Miners safety lamp used gas from B Pit to test the lamp. He also took it into the Pit to test it.
