' Location of 2ndWW Coast Artillery Battery. The Defence Of Britain Project records :- "This was a two gun coastal battery built early in WW2 to defend St. Ives Bay. Originally the battery was armed with a single gun taken from a French warship which had escaped from the Germans. Only a few shells were available. According to local author, Peter Murrish, the battery was later equipped with 2 x 11in coastal guns each capable of firing a 670 lb shell for up to 30000 yards (about 17 miles). In March 1961 the battery site was acquired by the National Trust, and the gun positions and pillboxes, etc were demolished apart from some foundations. Extra SRF records a possible magazine for the battery in good condition. " '
