' Shad Thames Pumping Station - built 1906. Following severe storms in 1903, the Southwark and Bermondsey Storm Relief Sewer running 1 5/8 miles from near Elephant and Castle to Shad Thames, was constructed to serve the low-lying areas of central-south London. The pumping station lifted the flow by approximately 20 feet for discharge into the river to the west of St Saviour's Dock. As part of the Tideway "super-sewer" project a new pipeline and manhole chamber will be constructed under Maguire Street. '
