' Is the Greek Liner called Matrona, formerly the WW2 Hospital Ship, called Aba? The Matrona capsized at the Bidston Dock in Birkenhead while being refitted, following war service. At the bow of this ship are darker plates than those along the side of the ship. The dark plates make a similar pattern to the bow plates on the attached photo which has the old inscription ‘SS Matrona at Bidston Dock Birkenhead 1948’. The refit did not proceed and the Matrona was sold to T.W.Ward Ltd for breaking at Barrow in Furness. The Matrona arrived in Barrow on the 04/10/1948. The general features of the ship, in the aerial view, are difficult to see but do seem to correspond well to the old Hospital Ship built in Glasgow and operated by the Elder Dempster Lines Ltd. What do you think? '
