London County Council (LCC) tramcar on route 46 heading to the City [Southwark Bridge] from Woolwich. The tramway system was extended along Eltham Road from Lee Green to Eltham Church in two parts. The first, to Lyme Farm was opened on 29th November 1920, and completed to Eltham Church four months later on 22 March 1921. This connected up with the line from Woolwich. This stretch of track was unique due to the Greenwich Observatory three mile restriction brought about by fears of interference with the equipment there. This meant that there was a Two wire overhead collection and return in place instead of the single wire elsewhere on the system. The extention along Westhorne Avenue, opened 1932, was not affected by this ruling as the Observatory moved in 1926. '
