This was originally Brittol House, HQ and laboratory of Brittol Syndicate Ltd, a lubrication and solvents producer. The company went into liquidation in 1934. It is very difficult to discern, but I believe that the sign above the door says 'Motor Industry Research Association' who appear to be the occupiers at this time.
In 1953 the building was taken over by the Admiralty Oil Laboratory, which remained at this site until its relocation to Cobham in 1968. '
