Some think this could have been the route of Huntingdon Beaumont's pioneering railway of 1604, which ran from pits at Strelley to "Wollaton Lane End", location unknown but somewhere convenient for Nottingham coal merchants of the time. It is one of the earliest known railways in Britain. '
