1956. If this distant shot shows the railway line to South Wales, it was also the line to Northwest England. On occasions when Sunday travel from Bristol was necessary, the Severn Tunnel would be closed for essential maintenance. This meant a ride via Gloucester, with a very different view through the beautiful scenery from Grange Court by the single tracked line to Ross on Wye, and thence to Hereford to rejoin the route north to Crewe. '
