After WW2 this area on the far side of the Royal Exchange was rebuilt and became the home of Marks and Spencers Department Store. After the devastation of the 1996 bomb, this was rebuilt, initially as the largest M&S store, but it proved too large and they now occupy half, the other half is a Selfridge store. '
