' Victoria park was open to the public in 1845. It was created specifically for East London residents and therefore the first of its kind in the UK to be so. Here East Enders could find relief from the deadening endless terraced streets and improved spiritual health that green open spaces give. Its once fine Art deco Lido closed in 1986 then lack of vision led to demolition in 1990. Victorian clinker rowing boats once graced the lake and tea houses completed the tranquil scene. Not so today. It seems now to serve as an events and function centre. During WW2 and mostly closed off to the public, the park accommodated a POW camp and anti air craft batteries.'Vicky'Park is also where the first railway murder occurred in England on the N-Eastern side where the North London Railway once ran. Wow what a park and how many stories this old Victorian gal can tell. I loved the park. Mondo '
