' The original Hertford North station, on the Great Northern branch line from Hatfield. It was often referred to as 'Cowbridge' station. There was a link to the Great Eastern branch at Hertford East, used only for goods traffic. At the time of the photo, the existing Hertford North on the Hertford Loop line had been open for a year, and passenger trains had been diverted to it.
