' The four gun emplacements of 411 Coastal Battery, 540 Coast Defence Regiment, Royal Artillery. The guns fitted were 5.5inch naval guns, previously removed from HMS Hood. Their range was less than 18,000yds, so were unable to reach enemy shipping off France. After use as a training battery, a change of tactics led to them being used as a 'flash' battery.
