Borehamwood (or Boreham Wood) and Elstree station - the name has varied over the years, as has the spelling of Borehamwood!

In 1935, the Fire Offices' Committee (an association of fire insurance companies) set up their testing station on this site, close to the gas works and to the goods yard, where test specimens could be delivered. This station developed into the Fire Research Station.

Later the Gate Studio. Previously called Whitehall Studios, Consolidated Studios, J.H. Studios and M.P. Studios (all qv). The last film made at the studio was John Wesley in 1954 (Source: http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/organisation/35959) In July 1928 photo EPW021917 this building is called Consolidated Film Studios and in November 1928 photo EPW025491 this building is called The Whitehall Studio.
