Original main station building - in common with most stations on this line the current 'Fast' lines were built first, so the main building was on this side. The 'Slow' lines, nearest the camera, were extended southwards in the 1890s, and at first served only for goods traffic. They were converted to passenger lines in 1895 after the second Elstree tunnel was opened.

Gate Studios, where the Aerofilms oblique aerial photo collection was stored prior to it being dispersed in 2007 to the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland, the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales, and English Heritage.

After WW2 they were used for a while by the Joint Fire Research Organisation, whose main site is just off to the left of the photo.
