This is Kenyon Clough. A Clough is a ravine.

This area is "Irwell Vale and Lumb". Very little of these buildings survives. To the right off picture is now a sewerage plant.

This railway line runs from Manchester and Bury to the left on to Helmshore, Accrington and Colne to the right. In 1946 there was a regular train from Helmshore to London Euston. The line was closed in 1966. For a short period the East Lancashire Railway used a short stretch in Helmshore but abandoned that when the line to Rawtenstall became available.

This railway line runs from Manchester and Bury to the left on to Rawtenstall to the right. It joins with the Helmshore line just to the left of the image margin. The Bury-Rawtenstall line was closed by BR in JUne 1972 and is now a preserved line with steam and diesel trains operating as The East Lancashire Railway.
