This building was originally a standard Belfast-truss aeroplane shed built for the Royal Flying Corps in 1917 and was used from the early 1920s as a flight shed by H G Hawker Engineering (later renamed Hawker Aircraft); the parent factory was in Kingston on Thames but a long new assembly hall was built beside the Byfleet Banking at Brooklands in 1935 and used until Hawker's moved to Langley Airfield in August 1942. |

In the same year that this shot was taken the circuit was closed and the site turned over to the war-time production of military aircraft.
