MEMORIAL COLLONADE, dedicated to the BIRMINGHAM INTERNATIONAL BRIGADE, dismantled when the ICC was built and reconstructed at the PEACE GARDEN in the grounds of the remnants of ST. THOMAS'S CHURCH. The church was damaged by WWII bombs leaving only the entrance portico and the steeple standing and remains the last evidence of Birmingham Blitz damage. |

PRINCE OF WALES THEATRE, BROAD STREET. Originally opened in 1856 as the Royal Music Hall, it went through several ownerships and name changes until it suffered a direct bomb hit on 9th APRIL 1941which completely destroyed the auditorium. The theatre never reopened and the frontage was finally demolished in 1987 to make way for the NEW BIRMINGHAM SYMPHONY HALL which opened in 1991. |

Shows the construction of BASKERVILLE HOUSE, which was to form one wing of a grandiose City Council project, but WWII intervened and the plans were abandoned with only the one building completed (BASKERVILLE HOUSE). It occupies the site of Mr Baskerville's printing works after the factory's canal wharf was filled in. The building has had two extra floors added onto the original roof in recent years along with a change of use. |

Originally the Headquarters of the BIRMINGHAM MUNICIPAL BANK, changed name and status when it joined the WALSALL & WEST MIDLANDS TRUSTEE SAVINGS BANK CONSORTIUM in 1974. All the consortia joined together nationally. The ownership was still disputed when the Government floated it on the London Stock Exchange as part of its privatisation programme. LLOYD'S BANK successfully acquired it becoming LLOYDS TSB BANK. This has since been split back into the two original separate entities. This branch was closed when LLOYDS TSB moved their HQ to the CENTRAL POST OFFICE building in VICTORIA SQUARE, the building having been saved from demolition. The BROAD STREET building is still standing. and hopefully will continue do so, |

GAS STREET CANAL BASIN, showing the barrier and bar lock. Because of different ownership of the canals, goods could not be transported from one company's canal to another's and had to be transferred to another narrow boat. The barrier across the basin was the boundary, BIRMINGHAM CANAL left, WORCESTER CANAL right. |
