Now Harland Road in Sidcup, still a dual carriageway from nowhere to nowhere eighty years after this photo was taken. Clearly the plan must have been for a junction with the A20 just south of the picture, and then to cross the rail line and link to Willersley Avenue, Blackfen and the A2. It would have been a major link and a good answer to the modern bottlenecks around New Eltham and Sidcup stations, but for some reason the rail bridge was abandoned and extensions at each end were never completed, leaving it just a side turning off the A211 Footscray Road (albeit an imposing one). |
