Clevedon Pier is listed Grade 1 and is well worth a visit. The pier is now run by the Clevedon Pier Preservation Society and is open every day except Christmas Day.

My wife and I have spent many hours lounging on the beautiful frontage at Clevedon. Alas, Clevedon is rapidly getting further from home, it seems.

A short landing stage for small boats. It ended short of the low tide. In use in 1903 and still in use today. (OS Map 1903)

I visited Clevedon in 1981 - the pier was in such a sorry state with the pierhead stranded out in the Bristol Channel and looking rather weatherbeaten. The structure looked very vulnerable so I was delighted to return a few years ago and see the brilliant restoration.

Sir John Betjeman did an excellent TV programme about Clevedon in 1962. I thought that it captured the essence of the place perfectly. Worth watching.
