THIS USED TO BE 'THE MIDLAND HOTEL' (NOW CALLED 'THE BURLINGTON HOTEL). THE STONE CARVED MIDLAND HOTEL NAME CAN STILL BE SEEN ON THE FACADE ON STEPHENSON STREET, SPANNING THE 'BURLINGTON ARCADE'. THIS ARCADE (OR COVERED PASSAGEWAY) SLOPED GENTLY DOWN FROM NEW STREET, WITH A LONG PASSAGEWAY THROUGH TO LOWER TEMPLE STREET, (NO LONGER EXISTS). AFTER REDEVELOPMENT THE ALTERED ARCADE NOW HAS TWO FLIGHTS OF STAIRS MIDWAY. THERE USED TO BE A SMALL MODEL RAILWAY SHOP AT THIS POINT.
