Birmingham Central Fire Station, opened in 1935 (new at time of photograph), was the HQ of the City of Birmingham Fire Brigade. This became the West Midlands Fire Service in 1974 which vacated the building in 2008 with a move to a new HQ in Nechells. Future use is planned as student accommodation for the adjacent university.
