The hole left behind from removing clay, the bricks, most of which built the houses for the mining company. Note that in the 1928 photographs the narrow gauge railway extends from the brickyard into the housing estate that was being built.

Shinwell Estate - prefab houses, later demolished and a new council house development built. Due to the elevation this area took a regular buffeting from the strong winds which regularly did extensive damage and removed roofs. The site was demolished again and maisonettes built for the elderly and disabled in its place. There are further new build private housing in this area now.
