These buildings form part of the Fire Research Station (FRS), formed in 1946 by the Joint Fire Research Organization, a collaborative venture by Government and insurance interests. It was based on the Fire Offices' Committee test station erected in 1935, but expanded over the years.
FRS became part of the Building Research Establishment in 1972, and eventually moved to BRE's main site at Garston, north of Watford, in 1997, leaving the site to be used by the insurance interests. They too became part of BRE in the 2000s and left the site. It is now covered in housing. |
