| Canal Basin at the head of the Newton Wood branch of the Peak Forest Canal. This was the terminus of the old tramway which ran down from Victoria Pit until it was severed by the building of the railway when it was then diverted to a rail siding off Dewsnap Lane.

| Newton Wood House: I believe this was the former managers house for Newton Wood Mill which stood at the top of the drive leading down to the works standing alongside the canal basin.

| Holderness's works tower: This red brick tower and its chimney dominated Newton Wood and was the nesting site for sparrow hawks.

| Site of former area used to store war tanks built at the Wagon Works after it's converted to a munitions factory during WW2. The same site was later used to store tanks which had been returned for decommissioning.
Tanks were brought by rail to Robinson & Kershaws which was based in the Wagon Works, after being unloaded they were driven down Glone Lane. past the school then onto the land behind where they were broken up.
The children at Globe Lane School played marbles with the large steel ball bearings recovered from the tank turret ball races. They were eventually banded due to the number of girls getting bruised ankles.

| Bradleyhurst Farm: located on Dunkirk Lane which was once a section of the ancient highway once used by carriers to transport salt from Cheshire and over the Pennine Hills to Yorkshire. The highway crossed the River Tame at Shepley then after passing Dukinfield Old Hall followed the course of the river until it turned east along Bennett Street to Newton, Mottram, Tintwistle etc.

| Dewsnap Basin where coal staithes once stood to load barges with coal transported down tramways from Dewsnap and Astley Deep Pits. at the end of its days 2 coal barges lay sunk at their moorings in the basin.

| Victoria Road School 1870 to 1939. Later used as a kitchen supplying meals to local schools.

| Edward Street: Peter Wright and Kathy Platt lived here in this narrow cinder based street which has changed very little over the past 65 years.
Mrs Elsie Wright our former dinner time school supervisor still lives at number 23, her family have occupied the house since it was built in the 1800's.

| Newton Wood Branch off the Peak Forrest Canal. This was built to collect coal brought down by tramways from the pits scattered around Newton Wood and Newton Moor to the wharfe located at its head near to Edward Street.
This section of the canal abounded with wild life and plants. and was our favorite place for catching Great Crested Newts and collecting frog spawn. In summer some kids would swim here and in winter slid on the ice, it was a super playground and was always teeming with kids,
