' Site of former area used to store war tanks built at the Wagon Works after it's converted to a munitions factory during WW2. The same site was later used to store tanks which had been returned for decommissioning. Tanks were brought by rail to Robinson & Kershaws which was based in the Wagon Works, after being unloaded they were driven down Glone Lane. past the school then onto the land behind where they were broken up. The children at Globe Lane School played marbles with the large steel ball bearings recovered from the tank turret ball races. They were eventually banded due to the number of girls getting bruised ankles. Information supplied by the Globe Lane Pals '
