One of five trolleybuses at the, as a large sign at the entrance pronounced, Trolleybus and Green Line Coach Station. Like the trams earlier the City Corporation objected to trolleybuses entering the City, but unlike the trams buses were unable to turn at the tram terminal next to the Metropolitan and District Algate East Underground station. Diesel buses had a layby in the Minories and the LT Board enlarged this layby by constructing a deck over the railway cutting in which the District and Circle lines met. Plans had been drawn up to have islands and a pedestrian subway, possibly linking to the underground station, but these were never fulfilled. Aldgate station was the busiest terminus on the system and at one time 124 buses departed from here between 7&8 am on routes 567, 569, 627, 653, 661, and 663, with a total for the day being 1,358 movements . The first (and last) route to use Algate was the 653 commencing on the 5th March 1939 and running til the 31st January 1961. The 653 was unusual in that it ran to Tottenham Court Road - about 2.5 miles to the west, but went on a long circular route via Stamford Hill.

Not quite Sir, it's St Botolph's Aldgate. A slip of the pen methinks.
