Inside the south entrance to the church is the headstone of Patience Johnson. As can be seen from the attached image, she had 12 sons & 12 daughters, but died in childbirth of her 25th child in 1717, aged 38. Her husband Shadrack had another 8 children with his second wife (the first was illegitimate).

In the pavement on this corner of Silver Street is a slab showing where John Bunyan was imprisoned in Bedford County Gaol from 1660 to 1672. The attached photo was taken on the 10th December 2013.

In this central section of the front of the Corn Exchange is a bust & plaque in celebration of Glenn Miller and the war time concerts he played there while he was staying nearby in a house in Ashburnham Road. He also went to Milton Ernest Hall, in Milton Ernest, where the American officers were based. The attached photo was taken on the 20th December 2013.
