EAW013234 ENGLAND (1948). Newman's Electrical Engineering Works, Yate, 1948

For many years (1963 to 1986) my family lived in Stanshawe Crescent at this approximate point. My wife used to obtain various items for our children from Thorn's Farm just along the road from home.

This road, later known as Kennedy Way, was used by traffic to and from the Celestine mine and works situated about half a mile from Newmans. A little farther along was a large shedded complex known as The Sea Transport store depot and for many years displayed lines of sea anchors. The depot was accessed by road and also by rail. Sidings were in use alongside the main railway line from Bristol and South Wales to Paddington.

According to German target documents there was some sort of camp at or near to the east side of Westerleigh Road. It looked very much like the military camps I came to know. About thirty huts arranged in three columns. Parnall Aircraft Co was close-by to the north and the airfield to the north side of the main road was known as No.3 Aircraft Repair Depot.
