A remarkably large house - feels Victorian gothic, possibly Yorkshire or Lancashire, possibly incorporating an older house. The addition of the wing shown to the south could indicate that the house has now become a school as it could be a dormitory.

Similar to Hornby Castle but differs in the details: http://www.ecastles.co.uk/hornby.html

As an aside there was a class of Southern Railway locomotives known as the 'Schools Class'. It consisted of 40 locomotives each named after a famous public school. I searched the list looking for a name to put with this photo. Canford is not on the list.
