By 1931 the property may have been owned by Lord Marshall, a Lord Mayor of London. He died in 1937 and the estate was bought by Surrey County Council for £2,795. The house - mansion, perhaps - became a care home for chronically ill elderly females. During World War Two it took in casualties. In 1948 it was absorbed into the NHS and by 1960 served as an annexe to Epsom District Hospital. The hospital here closed in 1975 and Shabden Park house was redeveloped as a set of luxury apartments. Much of its grounds now form a public park managed by Surrey Wildlife Trust Countryside Services |
