Pins
 The original building of Rhyl County School, later Rhyl Grammar School, and after 1967, Rhyl High School (Ysgol Uwchradd Y Rhyl). The school extended in 1930s (after this image was taken) with new buildings including additional general purpose classrooms, dedicated rooms for science (biology, chemistry and physics), domestic science and woodwork, plus a large assembly hall, gym and changing rooms, plus a refectory and kitchens. The new buildings and playing fields were constructed in the open space to the left and behind the original buildings, extending to The Cut, the drainage channel that can be seen in the distance. The War Memorial hospital is visible on the far side of The Cut facing the same road (Grange Road) that runs past the school. I used classrooms in the original building in 1963-1965, moving to the 1930s buildings in 1965-1970. The original building was demolished a long time ago - a good thing as two of the classrooms were potential fire traps. The 1930s buildings survived until a few years ago. |
