Castle Street - formerly Doomsdale (i.e., the route to the gallows south of the burgh). The west side of the the street was totally demolished in the early 1930s, and this image is valuable since it shows the layout of the medieval burgess plots west of the street. The east side still preserves some early eighteenth century merchant houses, at least one of which is described in a letter-book of its owner, a merchant called Grant, held in the Inverness museum.
