St. Lawrence Parish Church

This was the parish church used by the Earl of Canon and family. The music master was Handel. It is reputed that the Earl lost his money in the South Sea Bubble. The park alongside the church was part of his lands and the large building to the North had been his country seat until it was sold, demolished and re-built.

In the late 1950's the Boys Brigade used to parade along Whitchurch Lane, coming from the Edgware direction, four abreast; about half of the width of the road. There were three bus routes and traffic was constant and heavy for that period.
