Also the basin leads to the Monk Pit Branch, from 1845 allowing boat access, via the Monk Pit or Arches Lock, into the River Aire above the Bondman or Monk Pit Dam. The branch was filled in during the mid 1980's but the entrance/exit, into/from the river, can still be seen [2013].
